Twenty years ago I released Mockingbird, an album where I wrestled with politics, war, poverty and the tangled relationship between faith and power .
I even gave it away for free so anyone could hear it, and over 80,000 people downloaded it, which told me these themes mattered to a lot of people. Two decades on, the way churches and governments intersect and the behaviour of people of faith in public life feel more critical than ever to examine.
To mark the anniversary I’m revisiting these songs with three solo acoustic livestreams and doing a long-awaited repressing of the album on vinyl, along with some other merch to mark the occasion. I hope this moment invites us to reflect on how far we’ve come—and how much more conversation and work lies ahead.
