SURVIVAL SONGS: The Art Project
This ongoing series is a deeply personal collaboration between Derek Webb and his 18-year-old kid, Ash. Inspired by Derek’s Survival Songs album—written about and for Ash—the project pairs Ash’s bold, expressive artwork with Derek’s handwritten lyrics to create something entirely new: an emotional, visual interpretation of the music.
The project is made up of two parts:
A four-part series of limited-edition 11"x17" art prints, released in curated drops every two weeks. Each print features Ash’s vivid, expressive artwork paired with a handwritten lyric from the album — selected by Webb and autographed by both artists.
A 50+ page art book titled Outside the Lines, collecting 39 original works of art, each thoughtfully matched with a line from one of the album’s songs. The lyrics, rendered in Webb’s handwriting and printed beneath each image, echo the intimate, hand-crafted spirit of the prints. The book is compact (5.5"x8.5"), printed on heavy matte paper, and designed to feel like a personal, collectible keepsake.
Together, the series offers a visual and lyrical journey through Survival Songs — a body of work that’s as much about transformation and survival as it is about the enduring power of collaboration between parent and child.
